Sallie's work is informed by over 37 years involvement in nonprofit organizations as a worker, 'management committee' member, board member and researcher and 5 years of public sector employment. Sallie has recently retired from 13 years as an academic at the University of Technology, Sydney where she was a senior lecturer in adult education and nonprofit governance and management in the Faculties of Education and Business. She is currently consulting with Warawara Department of Indigenous Studies at Macquarie University, Sydney and a number of other nonprofit organisations.

Mez started work in the community sector at age 14 working in an aged care facility till she finished school and has since had an abiding love of older people. Since the mid-70s, Mez has worked, managed and shared in the governance of a wide variety of services for young people, women, children, people with disabilities and adult education services. Years in managing research and continuing education followed, with some interesting sidelines setting up and running an organic farm.

Jane has been involved in adult education for over thirty years. Until 2004, Jane worked in higher education and was concerned with the professional development of adult educators in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the Faculty of Education, University of Technology, Sydney. Since leaving UTS in 2004, Jane has participated in the activities of community groups such as Amnesty International Australia. Jane also undertakes consultancy work with nonprofit organisations and government bodies, most recently (October 2006) in the Solomon Islands where she worked with adult educators to assist their change from being didactic teachers to facilitators of adult learning. Jane has a particular passion for negotiated learning (including self-directed learning and using negotiated learning contracts), peer learning (including all forms of group learning), team-teaching and facilitating learning. Jane is also the co-author of a number of books and articles on peer learning and learning contracts.
